[Transcripts] Disparity- Chapter 7: In the Lap of Luxury

##Wiki/Chapter list = First Chapter = Previous = Next

Xant found himself holding on for dear life, his body crammed into a vehicle it clearly wasn’t designed for. His tail was squished between the tall seat and the frame of the machine, his legs too far apart for them to sit comfortably in the narrow footwell, so he was almost sideways in the forward-facing seat, but that also gave him a clear view of its pilot’s insane method of ‘driving’ the shaking contraption.
Jasmine didn’t even need to look where her feet and hands were going, moving them simultaneously to shift in and out of gear by instinct, all the while singing harsh, deep-throated songs at the top of her lungs.
Xant had been observing the human since her revival, and while she had had her ‘aggressive’ outbursts, brought on through stress and despair respectively, to see her exercise such aggression was fascinating. She was entranced, focused on some unknown ‘enemy’ and screaming her pent up emotions at ‘it’. Xant had never seen such emotional power simply blasted into the atmosphere without worry or consequence, but he couldn’t deny he was caught up in the triumph and relief the song gave her.
With practised ease, Jasmine stopped the car at the base of the enormous craft, then gleefully jumped out to climb atop the roof again. “Up here, Xant!” she called.
The doctor squirmed his way out of the car and stood on the ground, looking up at the human. She pointed to a small thin ladder welded to the side of the ship’s stern. “We need to climb that to get on board.”
Xant stared at her and then at the wide jump needed to cover that distance.
“Is this another attempt at humour?” The human did laugh, so he supposed he was right.
“Well, we could always wait for Rynard to throw you!” She smiled, making a hand motion of hefting a ball. “Like tossing a dwarf!” She giggled.
Xant for the first time questioned Jasmine’s intelligence.
“Perhaps we left you in stasis too long…”
He quickly examined the gap. It was going to be an extraordinary effort for him to climb atop the vehicle, let alone cross the divide with his physical ability alone. He tried to mimic Jasmine’s method of climbing on the car, but his hands and feet were not able to find the small gaps her narrower ones could find. In the end she had to pull him up, and felt the roof bow with his weight. From up top the distance to the ladder seemed even greater. “How exactly do you propose we climb the ladder from here?” he asked her, but Jasmine was still riding the exhilarating high of being ‘thunderstruck’.
“Like this!”
Without so much as a run-up Jasmine leapt towards the ladder and landed with precision, her elongated limbs showing an agility Xant had not considered during the physical examination. “Let me reframe the question,” he huffed. “How exactly do you expect me to climb the ladder from here?!” “Oh it’s not that far, it’s barely a jump!”
“Zenthi don’t ‘jump’.” “That offer for Rynard to throw you is still on the table.” Xant scoffed, took a deep breath and rationalised the situation.
He was in a military-grade suit, so while his weight and aerodynamics would be affected, his strength was increased and any fall damage negated through the armour and pain blocker chems. So, even if he fell, the only thing that would suffer would be his pride. Another uncomfortable thought peeked through the rationale.
He said he wanted to follow Jasmine. This would mean having to keep up with her. He couldn’t do that if he forever deliberated his shortcomings.
Xant inched closer to the edge of the car and Jasmine helpfully reached out to him, hanging precariously from the metal bars. “I’ll catch you!” She encouraged him. Her arms closing the distance boosted his confidence considerably, and he swayed his body back and forth, ready to leap. This would count as the most adventurous he had been in the steel suit, forever wary of Rynard’s warning of torn ligaments. Xant closed his eyes and pushed himself forward, the suit multiplying the force needed to get him across and almost smashing into the side of the yacht. Thankfully, Jasmine was able to correct her friend’s trajectory and guided his hands to the ladder’s sides, which he clung to for dear life. Jasmine gave a loud cheer. “You did it! Way to go, Xant!” And she patted his shoulder. “Now we just have to get to the top! Did you want to go first?”
Once again, he looked at the human as though she were lacking in common sense.
“How do I ‘go first’? You’re clearly ahead of me!” Jasmine could only smile as she maneuvered so only one hand and arm were on the ladder, her body swaying in the open air, unafraid of the drop below. “There you go! Now you’re clear. I’ll make sure you don’t fall!”
Xant shuddered, flattened his ears and forced himself to climb up the ladder. He could almost feel the thin aluminum bars being crushed under the strength of the suit, but one step at a time he climbed higher. The top was open, no hatch or easy step, so he had to scramble his way over and landed with a thud. By comparison, he heard Jasmine’s light footsteps make quick work of the ladder, and she was soon helping him up to his feet. “Careful,” she teased “you’ll scuff the deck!” “Scuff the what?...” “Take off your helmet, you’ll see things clearer!”
Warily, Xant let the locks of his helmet click and examined his surroundings. It was an ‘open air room’, the floor layered like in his office, multiple steps divided for different purposes, with a deep pit made of what looked like blue plastic as the focal point of the main room. Jasmine threw her arms open. “Welcome aboard, matey!” she announced. “Enjoy the pool deck!” “Pool? Was this filled with water-” Xant took a step closer but his ears were tickled by the sound underfoot. He had assumed the floor would have been of the same steel or plastics the ship was composed of but no, underneath him, the entire floor was made of wood. The doctor spluttered, reaching down to the floor to feel it. There was more wood here than he had seen in his entire lifetime, and humans used it for *flooring. *
“Ooh yeah, nothing beats a pristine hardwood deck, that’s why I told you not to scuff it.” Jasmine smiled, walking towards the glass doors. “Let’s check inside! I wonder if everything is still here?” Xant followed her. The whole building catered to a human’s sensibilities. He would be stepping into a truly alien environment.
And it was beautiful.
He was welcomed to a room detailed with wood and gold, whose glass windows shimmered even in the dim light. Displaced furniture, long couches and tables made of wood, extravagantly painted cloth with the shimmer of arvas pupa silk gathered dust, their beauty was comparable to imperial belongings. He ran a finger over the cushions and inspected the thin layer. “Phew! What a mess. Help me clean it up a bit…” Jasmine began lifting up an over turned chair, sliding it into a corner with an almost innate knowledge of where everything should go. The chairs, a long couch and two armchairs had all been pushed into the corner of the room the tables had slid to either end. Xant was almost too scared to touch anything. “What should I do?” he asked, afraid to risk any delicate work.
“We’ll start by dusting off the chairs, then I’ll tell you where they go, okay?”
“Alright...”
The chairs were covered in a soft cushiony material. Xant couldn't stop brushing his hand over them as he delicately placed the furniture, and was dismayed when he saw none of them had a hole for his tail.
“I’ll need help with this!” Jasmine called. The space beneath a large window was taken up by a long lounge, on which Jasmine promptly plonked herself. “Oh my god…I missed cushions.” She patted the space beside her. “Don't be shy! Take a load off!” “Just a moment.” Xant tapped his suit. He couldn't contain himself in steel any longer, the temptation to feel his new environment was too great. The suit splayed open and he was able to step out of it onto fluffy, soft carpet.
Xant lost himself rubbing his feet on the soft fibers. First wood, now fabric? It was obscene!
His own carpet was a precious momento, why would humans consider a laborious resource worth turning into a construction material?
“Is something wrong, Xant?”
“The floor, is this a common fixture?”
“The carpet? I mean, the owner was a madman to have white carpet on a boat, but if you can afford something like this you’re not cleaning it yourself.” Jasmine shrugged. “Carpet’s not uncommon, but generally going out of style because it's so hard to keep clean.”
Xant was both relieved and perplexed by the answer.
“So the reason it is not more common is maintenance?”
“Yeah, keeping carpet, let alone white carpet clean is a nightmare,” Jasmine explained, happy to be talking about the mundanity. “If you think the carpet is amazing you should try out the couch here!” Xant looked over the seat. It appeared all human furniture had a tall back support, with no consideration for large tails such as his own. He did spy a more accommodating stool, however, with the same cushiony substance on top.
“I think this might be more appropriate.” He flipped over the stool and sat, comfortably, very comfortably. He let his body relax as he took in more of the surroundings through naked eyes. There were still so many things thrown about. Cleaning against the wall next to his seat Xant spied an intricately carved container. It was rectangular, heavy and for whatever reason, had uniform, pyramid-shaped protrusions on the outside decorative surely, but the design made it difficult for him to hold. He had to be very careful picking it up.
Jasmine's eyes lit up when he inspected the object more closely, opening the stopper to sniff the contents within.
It smelled of disinfectant.
“Oh my god, yes!”
The human scrambled off the couch and started rummaging through the shelves in the lonely island bench.
“Jasmine?”
“Ah ha!” she cried triumphantly, pulling out another uniquely shaped bottle. “Now this is going to be great!” She skipped over to Xant, picking up more glass rectangles, handed him an empty one and placed his original find on the table. She poured out an amber liquid, a drop in his glass and a more substantial pour in hers.
“What is it?” Xant asked.
“Old enough to vote,” she giggled, then closed her eyes and took a small sip before exhaling and shivering pleasantly. “This is...well, I'm guessing it's older now, but aged whisky, a.k.a, human alcohol.”
Xant wrinkled up his nose.
“Is it supposed to be this colour?”
“Yes! When you drink it, you can taste the oak barrels and honey. But I know you guys use this for disinfectant, so, you get a drop if you're brave.”
“Considering what it does to your physiology, I doubt my own constitution can handle it.”
“Shame.” She shrugged and took another sip.
Xant couldn't taste it, but watched as Jasmine melted into relaxation.
“Ahhh, like drinking warm silk,” she described.
He took a sniff of the sample she gave him.
It was woody and sweet, but the second sniff burnt the inside of his nostrils. Xant graciously placed the ‘drink’ down, while Jasmine chuckled at his reaction.
“Yeah it’s not a drink for a first timer, I think it gets even more potent the longer it sits… and who knows how long we were floating out there.”
“By my best estimates, it could be anywhere between 10 to 1000 [quarters]. Calculating in the unexplored regions of the system, what is currently reachable by galactic council gates and the limit of stasis pods.” Xant informed her.
Jasmine sat quietly for a moment, staring into her glass, before she threw back her head and the drink in one go.
“Whoooo!” She coughed. “Okay, we've seen this room, what else is there to explore!” She swayed getting to her feet, but charged forward anyway. Xant followed close behind, in case she lost her footing, or incase the alcohol began interfering with her Freq control.
The hallways connecting the chambers were very narrow, almost too narrow for him, and all of them had such sharp ascents and descents. The human led inside to one of the many inner chambers, each one as tossed around as the last. There was an entire ‘library’ of paper books, another room dedicated to the act of ‘entertaining’, featuring a destroyed dataslate the size of an operating table, and smaller ‘bedrooms’ that appeared just to be filled with more cushiony furniture.
“And here is the master bedroom.” Jasmine pushed open the ornate wooden doors to reveal yet another spectacular room, almost as large as the entertainment deck, but was sparsely furnished, all Xant could see was that it contained a bed with tables either side, but the bed was nothing short of magnificent. The tapestry stretched across it was nothing short of breathtaking, where giant intertwining flowers embroidered with gold thread sprawled across its majesty. He’d never seen anything as intricate made from pure cloth, the designs were simply beautiful.
“You really like that bedspread, huh?” Jasmine questioned. Xant ran his hand over the quilt, picking it up and feeling the weight of it, wondering what it was like to not be mesmerised by it all.
“Are humans always surrounded by such beauty?” he asked.
The question caught her off guard, and she looked around the room.
“Not always, but, at the same time, this is closer to what it’s like on earth than either the station or the base.” She held her arms wide as she took lazy steps across the room.
“Windows, pictures and paint on the walls, bedsheets and pillows...we like ‘beautiful’ surroundings.” She fell backward onto the large bed, rolling on the blankets and looking up at Xant. “You’ve got no excuse not to feel what the bed is like.”
Xant sighed, took a deep breath and mimicked Jasmine’s actions, letting himself flop forward onto the bed.
It was fluffy and soft.
“I think the sheet’s a genuine 1000 thread count too. Maybe I could make a proper cape out of this, huh?”
“It is absolutely fascinating that humans sleep on such luxury.”
“The lucky ones sleep on such luxury! But I do appreciate bedsheets after going without for so long.”
Her attention was shortening by the moment, as she rolled off the most comfortable place in existence to peek around a door.
“The ensuite!!” she squealed. “Oh Xant, you have to see what a real bathroom looks like!”
If the master bedroom was the most comfortable place in the world, then the ensuite was the most ornate. Xant couldn’t even identify what half the items were in the room, but they apparently all pertained to the simple act of grooming.
Long, wide mirrors lined one entire side of the room, double marble basins and chrome taps sat beneath them. Frosted glass windows, a bath big enough to fit four and a bidet decorated with gold made up the rest of the fixtures. Jasmine once again began rummaging through the shelves, making happy noises with every new discovery.
“Xant, hold out your hand!”
The doctor reluctantly did so, and Jasmine placed a small white blob in it. “Smell it!!” she insisted, fever in her eyes.
He took a quick and wary sniff, but the burning sensation he expected never came.
A fresh and vibrant perfume filled his senses, a sweetness he’d never known.
“It's jasmine hand cream! This is what my namesake smells like!” She dotted her entire arms with the cream and rubbed it into her skin.
“A moisturizer?”
“Yes! And here’s shampoo and conditioner, for hair, moisturizer, face cream, body wash, exfoliant, oh god please, oh please let the water be running!”
She dived for the taps to the bath, wrenching the handle as hard and as fast as it would go, but to no avail.
“Noooo,” she sobbed, hanging her head. “S’pose it was too good to be true, the water in the tanks would be dry…”
Xant curiously looked over the bathtub and jasmine could feel his freq overflowing with curiosity.
“So humans clean themselves in still water?”
“Well, soaking in the tub is fun, it's not exclusively how we clean ourselves, the shower is better for that.”
“So what is the difference between a human shower and our own?”
Jasmine pulled a disgruntled face.
“It’s the difference between a warm gentle rain and a cold pressure hose!” she exclaimed. “Oh, I wonder if we could get it running again…?” She absent mindedly lifted up a wicker basket, finding a few clothes the previous owners had left behind. “So, what do you think?” she asked, lifting a floral summer dress up over her figure.
“The patterns are beautiful, but, is it a cape?”
“No, it’s a dress! Hmmm, but I’d have to lose a few kilos for it to fit.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Well, I’m a little bit bigger than the supermodel who stayed on this boat, but nothing a few weeks of exercise and diet couldn’t fix. Since there’s no junk food I really don’t have the excuse.”
“Are you not already in optimal condition?”
“Pfffft! No, god no.” She pulled at her stomach fat playfully. “Too much good food and junk food makes for chunky humans.”
“Junk food?”
Jasmine grinned ear to ear.
“Junk food, food that holds almost no nutritional value but is all about taste, glorious morsels of sugar, salt and colour dye.”
“There’s a chance sugar could be found aboard this vessel? We’d need to destroy it if there is any intact, its addictive nature can destroy a Sulins inhibition perminately.”
“Well if it’s going to be anywhere on the ship, it’ll be in the kitchen!”
They headed down to the bottom decks and stepped into a stainless steel wonderland. Jasmine was in her element, running her hand over the many pieces of specialised equipment as Xant watched on in wonder.
They found a perfectly polished kitchen, filled to the brim with human utensils, and all of it for the sole use of producing food. Jasmine lifted a book from the floor and brought it over to Xant.
“Here, this is what human food is supposed to look like.”
The graphical fidelity of the pictures was phenomenal, given that they weren’t on a computer screen, but the colours and shapes didn’t even seem similar to what he knew as ‘food’. He had seen sculptures that didn’t have dimensions nearly as interesting as those of the consumables depicted, and there was page after page of them, dish after dish, each one a work of art.
She showed him the variety of knives on display and the stupid amount of cutlery for eating said food. This was an entire industry to these people, the production and skill devoted to it was…
Garish.
Jasmine stood before a giant set of doors, her hands hovering over the handles.
“This is a refrigerator, we keep perishable goods inside… I wonder if anything is still…”
She jerked open the doors and they were both greeted with the foulest stench. The rotting and liquefied remains of meat and vegetables slopped onto the floor. Sealed inside the fridge, the smell had fermented to overpowering levels.
“Air!” Jasmine shouted as she scrambled past Xant. “I need air!”
They ran up several stairs to escape the toxic gas and were able to breathe a sigh of relief once above deck. They appeared to have come out the other side, more couches and pools littering the area Jasmine made her way across to get to the bow of the ship.
She walked to its peak, then climbed over the safety railing to hold the spearhead.
Puffing out her chest and throwing her arms open, she proclaimed for the entire engineering wing to hear,
“I’M ON A BOAT, I’M ON A BOAT! TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK AT THE MOTHER FUCKING BOAT!”
An echo of uproarious laughter soon followed suit, a joke Xant wasn’t privy to, then Jasmine climbed back to join him.
“You know, I think I’m done for the moment. I need a break from all this excitement…”
She flopped herself down on one of the sunbeds, and Xant stood over her.
“Jasmine, I’ve been meaning to ask...”
“Go ahead?”
“All of this, it’s wonderful, but it’s nothing like the memory you shared with me. All this is pure opulence. Your memory was far more humble and comforting…”
“Well, that’s because this is a superyacht, and not a lower-income one bedroom apartment…” The human shrugged.
“So, what measure of wealth allows people to live such drastically different lives?”
“... I, dunno know, they're mostly owners of companies, corporations, kings, queens, people who run economies…”
“What expertise defines their worth to be that much more than yours?” Xant asked pointedly.
Jasmine faltered for an answer. While she could throw around words like investment portfolios and trust funds, she didn't actually understand the system as well as she would have liked.
“They study finance, have rich parents, inherited gold mines…luck, I guess? There’s many different ways to get there.”
“So, every human has the chance to attain this level of contribution credit?”
“No…”
“That doesn’t seem fair,” Xant remarked, finally lying down beside her. Jasmine stared up at the steel enclosed ceiling, reflecting.
“No it’s not, but it’s getting better,” she replied. “Slowly but surely, it's getting better.”

2021 NFL Mock Draft with explanations for each pick (3 rounds) + Prospect rankings.

Hey everyone. Warning this is a massive post, but im sure that's normal here!
Decided to do an early mock and prospect analysis. I operate a 49ers blog and Slack server, and had done this with them, but I decided to share it here. fortheniners.com is my website if you want to check it out for more stuff, but it's mostly 49ers oriented. I created a custom order based on the rest of the season and i simulated the rest. Some picks might be switched in the 2nd round and 3rd due to the reordering of picks, but mostly it should be OK. You also get to watch a relevant slideshow as this happens.
Swift Learner - 1000 CP Discount
You learn extremely quickly and often gain seemingly irrelevant proficiencies while you train in other things. Practise with a gun and you’ll make a marksman in no time but you may also find yourself getting a little more skilled at talking to people. Get better at haggling and you may just find your machete arm to be a touch more deft at chopping. Maybe it’s a confidence thing.
High Times - 800 CP
An unfortunate fact of chems is that you develop a resistance to them over time and can’t quite feel the same kick you once did. Luckily for you narcotics are consistently both strong and extremely pleasant ensuring no bad trips, comedowns or accidental psycho-related murders.
Whiskey Rose - 700 CP
You remain as capable as ever and do not experience the negative effects of alcohol or drugs at all suffering no addictions or hangovers. You actually become slightly more durable when drunk as well making you marginally more capable in a bar brawl (or fire fight) when intoxicated.

Companion Import - 150 CP
Newly created companions and imports gain a history in this world, a Background and Faction of your choice (along with any freebies that come with these) as well as 600 Caps to spend as you like (although they cannot purchase further Companions). Canon characters purchased must be persuaded to come along with you and do not gain any Caps, a Background or a Faction.
Deathclaw Egg - 0 CP
Currently unhatched but will eventually grow into a Deathclaw so large and monstrous as to become a legend. Extremely fast and agile with 12 inch long razor sharp claws that go through power armour much as they go through everything else. Thinks you’re it’s mama so will follow your directions as best it can. Alternatively you may choose to have it grow into a deathclaw the size of a small dog that still somehow packs the punch of the fully grown variety.
Drawbacks:
Guardian of the Wastes - 200 CP +
You’re destined to have a lot of work come your way, unfortunately nobody else seems to get anything done so if your side is going to win a war you're going to be dealing with the enemy top brass (and half their army) personally and when ferals need exterminating or a lost caravan needs finding it’s going to be you doing it or no-one.
Ant Misbehavin’ - 100 CP +
Mutated insects are attracted to you (particularly the fleshy parts of you that they can eat). Walk through the wrong part of the desert and you’ll have a horde of giant fire-breathing ants chasing you halfway across the Mojave and if you veer into cazador country... well try not to veer into cazador country.
McCullum
Origin: Soldier Faction: Brotherhood of Steel Race: Human Perks:
Heave, Ho! - Free
You’re perceptive and accurate by nature making you a fair shot even with an unfamiliar firearm and you’ve got one hell of an arm on you. Whether a tomahawk, a javelin or a grenade you have a knack for throwing things ridiculously accurately and with a fair bit more distance than your strength should allow.
Power Armor Training - Free
All Brotherhood members are taught in the use of Power Armor but on your body you can really make it sing. You move as one with the armor with no loss of dexterity and instinctively know how best to position yourself to protect any weakspots so that bullets simply glance off you as you charge around as an engine of destruction on the battlefield. Semper Invicta!
Basic Gear - Free
Recon Armor + Laser Rifle
Big Iron - Free
Whether a Ranger Sequoia, a scoped hunting revolver, your lucky sidearm or something more mysterious this is a powerful revolver with a theme of your choice that packs a punch greater than it has any right to. This is like Ranger Sequoia but slightly different design to not be mistaken for it.
Power Armor - 500 CP
A fine suit of Power Armor with the design (and paint-job) of your choice, a level of protection greater than even a T-51B suit, a huge increase to your physical strength and a tesla drive improving energy based attacks. Comes with basic operational training if you do not take Power Armor Training. This is X-01 Power Armor like in Fallout 4.
Heavyweight Ordinancex2 - 200 CP
A really great gun of some sort. Whether energy or ballistic this is a unique, beautiful weapon which is simultaneously more lightweight and powerful and has a faster rate of fire. You may also choose the basic theme/design. Here are some suggestions: Plasma caster, gauss rifle, gatling laser, minigun, anti-materiel rifle, brush gun, combat shotgun. You also get a replenishing stock of various special ammunitions (explosive rounds, hollowpoints, etc.). This is Sprtel-Wood 9700(Gatling Laser) and YCS/186(Guass Rifle).
Sierra Madre Vending Machine - 0 CP
A vending machine that can fabricate food, drinks, cigarettes, clothes, medicine, ammo and other supplies containing all known codes of the resort. Requires chips but comes with a hatch that provides a needlessly large stipend daily.
Scenario:
OLD WORLD BLUES
There is an expression in the Wasteland: "Old World Blues". It refers to those so obsessed with the past they can't see the present, much less the future, for what it is.
Big MT, a research base before the war and now a legendary treasure trove of technology. “Controlled” by a group of think tanks (unique brain bots with the not entirely stable brains of brilliant pre-war scientists) called the Think Tank and Mobius their former colleague and current adversary (also a think tank). The Think Tank do not know it (currently running on the theory that there is no world outside Big MT) but many of their experiments and creations (cazadores and night stalkers chief among them) have escaped into the wastes and brought death and destruction with them. Your task is to fight your way through lobotomites, mini- deathclaws and robo-scorpions alike to either destroy the Think Tank and permanently stop any further threat their experiments pose to the Mojave or to reason with them and convince them to work together on your behalf for (hopefully) a brighter future.
Your time picking through the labs of Big MT have afforded you a certain way of thinking. As if possessed by the will of SCIENCE! itself you find yourself constantly coming up with scientific breakthroughs that you’re sure will work. Unfortunately, while potentially possible to turn to good, these ideas are always initially somewhere between pointless and horribly insane. You may not be able to cure diseases or invent tools that improve basic quality of life but the creation of new species of monstrous mutants or the invention of sapient neurotic sinks is now, not only possible, but downright easy. If removed you may also take your own brain in a jar as a companion. Don’t ask, it just works. You also get your own pet X-42 giant robo-scorpion that seems to run without an energy source.
Story Interlude:
The moment we both appeared in my warehouse, McCullum was quite stunned about such a place. He asked why it looked like a big warehouse that could be seen in docks but I replied I had no idea honestly, but told him I can change it later with sufficient WP. He just looked at me with a questioning expression.
It took some time to explain how all this worked but in the end he understood. He went around but commented how empty this place is when he noticed that I don’t have many things beside my tent that works as a barrack, which is a tent because it looked better for one person. I know I can make it a building like the military has if needed, and so I did. The tent vanished with my thought and a small building appeared, along with two beds and some basic furniture.
Next thing we did was to go to my medic bay area, which also had vending machine sized diagnostic tool for medical things.
It was supposed to scan McCullum and correct anything bad in his body, he stepped closer upon my explanation. I pushed the button and he was covered in light for a moment before the screen changed and various data started appearing. Seems like he is healthy and being Ekon for so long has removed all diseases he had as a human. No defects or any other problems detected, good.
With check up done we went back to the area near our new barrack. My seven day rest time automatically activated so we had time for him to get ready for our next jump and also to acquire some information relevant to the setting.
For now I told him to leave his sword and revolver in the barracks and to let us test both of our abilities, since we didn’t spar or anything during our journey throughout europe. Taking care to be near the medicine bay just in case. I showed him my power to spawn blood packs, which he found interesting but also inconceivable.
I gave him a good supply of them if he needed to drink. Next thing was comparing mastery over our powers.
As a 2nd generation ekon with 9 years of experience he managed to learn all ekon powers aside from the three ultimate attacks, while other powers weren’t maxed out. Seeing as he wasn’t like Mary, going on and slaughtering people and drinking blood like nothing, he merely approached her in power after 9 years. He also learned how to make 1 shadow clone, which seems like a limit that a normal vampire can make. His physical body is near peak human.
Meanwhile I by the time of final fight with Red Queen maxed out my powers as normal ekon, learning all powers, even ultimate ones, all due to fighting and evolution ability, which only worked to maxing out to game level. After that I had to train and use my capstone boosted less limits perk, which removed them all together.
After 9 more years of training my abilities went beyond those of even 1st gen ekon. My blood barrier became strong enough to easily handle attacks of skals and other creatures like sewer beasts. Even if I tried the same thing that cut off my arm back then wouldn’t work easily. I could hit myself three times at full power while it remained active, needing another weaker hit before it broke, tested after using someone else's weapons of course.
My shadow mist ability became about two times larger, now able to cover significant areas and damaging enemies swiftly and deadly. Invisibility power became very easy to use and now I could sustain it by using barely any stamina, even if sprinting. But not using super speed. I could also sustain it even if bumping into something or being attacked, but not when I myself attacked, seems it’s still beyond me.
I was also quite versatile in usage of my powers, not being a specialist like in the game, I could use both forms of powers combined if I so desired. Like a hard blood barrier and an exploding one, though this decreased power if used at the same time so I keeped to what I liked.
I didn’t figure out shooting homing blood spears but I could shoot them in quicker succession than normal, needing about 1s between use. I could also shoot several smaller ones each for different targets rather than three in a wedge.
My claws became one of my more used abilities in close combat now too, claws made of blood are capable of persisting while I strike for three blows instead of one like normal, can make it for both of my hands if needed even. They are also tougher than my saber is and more damaging.
Coagulation ability wasn’t trained as much as others but I can still use it easily enough for a bit longer than what is allowed.
Meanwhile my ultimate powers stayed relatively normal, I can handle using them more often though.
Other than that I am about double that of peak human in physical capability, my body mod didn’t stack at 100% with my ekon stats and ended up like this. Though I can feel I’m slowly growing in body strength, it’s quite a small boost.
So the next few days was spent on me feeding Geoffrey blood packs, while he can’t easily evolve like I can, he can train with limitless supply of blood, only being limited by stamina for shadow powers.
Between his training I also told him about my original world and my first jump. He was interested in a world without monsters, though he stopped calling ekons as such. Thankfully he came to terms with his powers.
Then I myself spent some time on choosing my next jump, which will be Fallout New Vegas and one of my favorite games. The reason for jumping there is due to amazing technology I could acquire and how it will help me when I decide to jump to Mass Effect. This came with a crash course on Fallout setting for Geoffrey so he could handle it more easily. His expression was amazing when I told him what kind of world this will be, but also sad on why it was as such, meaning nuclear apocalypse.
So without further rambling I started setting up the next jump.
I decided to be member of the Brotherhood of Steel as a scribe scientist, combining it with learning perks and 100 CP transferred to my body mod, which made me intelligent and gave me resistance to disease and toxins, which are something I hate and am not certain my new body will handle easily, which I made to look just like my Ekon one.
I got a few free perks for this origin even, mainly power armor training so that it’s as easy as breathing for me to move efficiently in it, quick learning perk, and something akin to the ending slideshow I saw in the game.
For the ones I bought was the ability to learn even faster, combined with my body mod and free perk I should be at least a genius in intellect… hopefully. In addition to not getting resistant to chems and immunity to bad things that could happen when I take them. This is crucial for getting various boosts I will get.
Next was the item section, free gear which is laser rifle and recon armor, not bad. A doctor bag with respawning supply of stimpaks, med-x and limb fixing package as well as basic medic tools. Very good.
The things I bought were two, Euclid’s C-Finder.which is a rangefinder for orbital laser cannon like Archimedes II, very powerful and useful for me, and also a cool asset. The other one is Sierra Madre Vending machine with replenishing supply of a large amount of chips. This will help me with supplies and my plan on giving it more blueprints, which should in theory work.
My next thing to do was getting companion import, I wanted to have McCullum as my friend in arms and a paladin of the brotherhood. So he became a soldier and a member of my faction there. I asked him what he wanted when he had break from training and he came up with these perks and items.
Basic gear just like me, free powerful revolver, which he imported from his own one, now upgraded tremendously. A set of X-01 power armor, keeping in mind that most people use T-45 or T-51 I wonder how it will work in the jump. We shall see.
He then bought two heavy weapons to fight against both armies and powerful singular enemies, with a unique gatling laser and unique gauss rifle. I doubt he will have trouble killing much of anything in Fallout.
He told me then there wasn’t much he needed so I persuaded him to buy us a second Vending Machine. He easily agreed after I explained to him how powerful of a tool it is, with two of them our options will expand even more.
Geoffrey was a bit troubled when I told him that I also want to buy a deathclaw egg, since after learning how much of a killing machine it can grow into he understood he was weaker than it, at least as he is now. But I assured him it will be friendly to us. Eventually he agreed.
Good thing we will get vending machines for food. I hope it hatches easily as I don’t have experience with such things.
Later on I saw I’m short on CP and had to take drawbacks, one will make mutated insects attack me, while other will make it similar to in game quests, meaning that it will fall to me and companions to deal with stuff and we will not get help in terms of people. I don’t really mind it as I intend to train my ekon powers away from curious eyes, same for Geoffrey.
Oh, wait. How do we hatch deathclaw as members of BoS? I think we will need to leave the egg in the warehouse for some time and then get some mission and hatch it. Hmm I can use my access key to sort of teleport so I could visit the egg even if inside the Hidden Valley. I will buy more of these keys to give to McCullum one too.
Just before the week of training and preparation is over I tell McCullum my plan and the scenario I have chosen. We will acquire advanced technology, weapons, armor, chems, robots maybe while trying to make Mojave a safer place, he agreed to that readily. I smiled and then explained I have chosen the scenario to be Old Worlds Blue, a super high tech facility with brilliant minds such as Think Tank and Mobius who I intend to make peace with and gather more technology, in addition to super powerful giant robo scorpion.
I told him it will be a dangerous battle ahead, at least to get to Mobius and we will need experience and plenty of tech to do it. I chose to start in BoS bunker instead of in Big Mt. since it would be too dangerous for now and I know how to get us teleported there, at least me, he can then step through the warehouse to help me. While I’m averse to getting lobotomized, it’s probably my only option for now, at least until I get smarter. Perhaps I will be able to avoid such a thing and other bad events from the plot.
For now we stood there as the countdown approached. My warehouse didn’t have a cleaning facility so we were dirty as ever, hopefully our new bodies will be clean.
Space Shattered after I initialised the jump.
Story:
In a blink I appeared in a metal room, it was my bedroom inside of Hidden Valley bunker. Geoffrey seems to also have appeared inside of his own. I wasn’t wearing my cloak and suit but scientist clothes that were basic clothing of scribes around here. Looking around the room it was similar in design to how I remembered from the game.
Still the sight of a big egg sitting peacefully on my bed startled me a bit. Thankfully there wasn’t any sort of camera system so I covered it quickly with my blanket and immediately opened the door to my warehouse to put the egg inside, I couldn’t teleport it as other things as it was alive.
Not wasting time I placed it only on my bed in the barrack and left before anyone would try to open the door to my room to talk with me and just a few seconds later I heard the door opening as I remede my bed sheets. McCullum has entered the room. I asked him how he was, having jumped the first time with me and he explained it was strange having another but the same body. Lack of his ekon powers in his new form surprised him. But he was also happy to lose that weakness, which was inability to eat or drink normal food. He has long since wished to taste it once again so we went to mess hall.
There I asked him what about the power armor he bought and it seems that it wasn’t in his room. Good thing as X-01 top tier pre war prototype appearing in a paladin room would be bizarre. I considered explaining that I made it or something but I doubt it would work here. Even more with his two top tier weapons. At least his revolver which he has won’t make others cast strange gazes at us.
I told him about the deathclaw egg and how it appeared near my bed and we agreed it would be dangerous to have someone stumble upon us having it. Could perhaps get us exiled or court martialed. With that said our new fake memories were certainly useful. We had pretty much most of what we needed to not stand out in the chapter. McCullum also had extensive knowledge of weapons and experience on using them and his power armor while I had a variety of subjects I was expert at regarding fallout technology. With my current level I inherently understand and would not have a problem creating power armor as long as I had schematics for it, and repairing armor and weapons is a breeze.
Making new weapons and armor is also possible if a long term subject, but still I’m not the best in the field. Based on my understanding Courier should be laying in his grave right about now as it’s night time. Big Mt. story should happen towards the mid or end of his journey, at least after Nipton and meeting Vulpes. So we have at the least a few days and at most months. I even with my current intellect have a worry about continuity of self so I do not intend to be teleported and lobotomized by the Think Tank so I will enter the area by conventional method, it should be possible as I know the rough location and that Elijah did it.
So the first thing to do would be to try to get some field mission to get outside. I don’t know how we can raise our deathclaw inside. Though currently we know that there are a few recon squads gathering information regarding the situation in the Mojave, we probably won’t get a mission. Due to this next week was spent reading through the BoS database for all technology I had access to, which was most actually.
We also had some time to check out weapons and armor we bought for the jump, and the deathclaw egg looked fine too, and didn't change in any way yet. The items were as impressive as I thought they would be. I have shot the armor with McCullum new weapons and it managed to endure quite a few shots even in the same place before melting or breaking off. Then I tried attacking it with my own powers but only managed to leave deep scratches with my claws, blood spears also made a few shallow holes.
On the other hand my Abyss ability managed to barely pierce the chest plate protecting the frame, it could probably injure a person inside more akin to a gunshot. It wasn’t able to lift it off the ground like it can with skals or humans though. Perhaps it can be strengthened. Later Geoffrey used his upgraded revolver to shoot my blood barrier. It managed to block one shot and broke after two. Next was shooting my arm, it hurt a bit but I regenerated in a moment.
Last test was him using Gauss Cannon and Gatling Laser to attack my blood barrier, of course aiming at the edge. Gauss pierced it like it wasn’t even there, Gatling took a few shots. Though considering both can eventually damage power armor I don’t feel bad. My next goal regarding mastering my power even more is blocking gauss cannon, which is probably the most powerful kinetic weapon in this desert. I also need to be able to do more damage with my claws and spear to power armored enemies, these roboscorpions will be tough as nails.
With not much else to do, McCullum was honing his skills with the basic gear he got like a laser rifle, which he was good already in using. I hoarded knowledge with my perfect memory. In due time I started to get some ideas in regards to how Sierra Madre Vending Machines work. We haven't yet tried them out because I want to leave it after we are in the field.
Then as the third week was starting I managed to give a convincing idea in regards to a field mission. Mine and Geoffrey's mission is to leave the bunker and deal with powder gangers that have set up a base of operations a few km from the base. Perfect opportunity. McCullum was to deal with fighting while I was to interrogate them and see if they know anything about technology nearby and information about the factions here.
So Geoffrey was allowed to take T-51 power armor and a minigun for this mission while I followed with my Recon armor and Laser Rifle. Obliterating them was easy enough, even with just the weapons we got. I also used a blood barrier which was quite visible, but provided me protection from their shitty pistols.
Once we killed most I used my mind control power to force questions out of the guy we left alive. Some useless info, news about some Courier saving Primm from raiders. We were pleasantly surprised he managed to arrive in Primm after so much time. Now we had a brief time to start our real operation here. I had McCullum patrol the surroundings while I took one of our vending machines outside to this place, while I could teleport it here, I didn’t want to have it break if it appeared in the air or something. Next I have uploaded several blueprints I managed to create during my two weeks on my personal computer and uploaded in holotape.
I have given it the ability to produce several different ammunition, frag, plasma and emp grenades among the combat ones, in addition to some chems like Jet I managed to get info on the components it is made of without having to reinvent the dung recipe someone remade.
Still the most important thing I got was a blueprint for a mister handy robot and mister gutsy robot, the basic ones. I was quite nervous if it was gonna work but by the evening we managed to make enough parts for one of each of them. By the dawn I have put the parts together and activated them using one of fusion cores I managed to get from the person in charge of supplies. I didn’t have time to make a blueprint for it yet but I will have to make one sometime later to return the two I took.
About 10am in the morning we were done with checking to see if it will work and proceed to activate them. I activated personality subroutine in both and they proclaimed their loyalty to me. I have given Geoffrey a secondary access so he could give them orders as long as they did not go against my own orders or intended to harm me.
We still had two days left to return as our mission duration was three generous days. The four of us left the Raider camp while I returned the vending machine to the warehouse. We went south from the camp and rushed to NCR correctional facility which was just a prison. By the time we arrived it was already afternoon.
The facility was quite empty, it seems that Courier has killed Powder Gangers inside. So we occupied it as our new base of operations. Geoffrey cleaned whatever scum had managed to hide in the basement of this place, which was also a few ghouls, a scary place indeed. I meanwhile took the building with the biggest space inside and set up my vending machine once again there. Also by using the door there I could later on teleport here if desired. Very cool.
My Mister Gutsy was instructed to stand guard outside the building door and watch out for hostels or anyone really. Mister handy was told to watch while I make parts for another batch of them and then make them a complete whole. He easily understood how it worked. I told him that his and the other one job is to make another 8 mister handies and teach them how it all works.
One mister handy to operate the vending machine, one to create more robots out of parts. I set up another machine at the other end so altogether four of them were to work on making new robots, while six of them were to clean the whole facility so it’s nice to look at. Once 10 of mister handy were in existence they were to switch to making mister gutsy and produce fifty of them. This is gonna take a while but I can’t easily secede from BoS without measure of power. I only really needed them for their knowledge.
Based on current estimates I will get four robots per day per vending machine. Generous supply of chips for raw materials also is within capacity, though really close to limit. Nonetheless I expect great results.
Mister Gutsy outside is also made supreme commander of my Mr. Gutsy army. I intend to upgrade him later if time allows. He is told to make 5 other Mr. Gutsy as his lieutenants and each of them will have 9 subordinates to call on. Their job is to secure the perimeter of the facility and protect it from harm at all cost.
Next I used computer present in the facility to create fusion core blueprint I needed for the rest of my free time, made a few and instructed my Mr. Handy to properly power up the other one i made but lacked power and do the same for every other robot. Which also pushed production to the limit. I took two fusion cores to return and with McCullum we traveled back to give our report.
Next two weeks I created blueprints and read through the database more. I had some responsibility but it was quite an easy job as a scribe, while McCullum was training younger members of the chapter.
Two weeks later I had created as many gutsies as the area of my base could hold, even the basement. I sent two of them to monitor the area around the place that the satellite was supposed to crash in case Old World Blues was to start from. Thankfully Courier did his quests in NCR outpost and passed through Nipton. It seems he is a good guy from the rumours I had heard.
As he slowly journeyed north I spent another month figuratively eating knowledge of the brotherhood. It was exceedingly vast but I had absorbed the majority already. My vending machines already had blueprints for all BoS armors and weapons, for a computer, foods of all kinds and medicine. I also managed to crack creation of power armors, the schematics were locked so I had to study T-51 that McCullum can use for training and his X-01 he trains on sometimes in the warehouse.
Speaking of warehouses, we have long since took the deathclaw egg away from it. Now it sits in one of the buildings at our base, with mister handy taking care of it, we of course uploaded knowledge regarding deathclaws and all around medicine so he can take relatively proper care. Biosigns detected through a device I made told me it will hatch within next month. I will probably need to make it go around the wasteland for experience and so his growth is not stunted. I hope he recognizes me as a master or parent of some kind properly. But I have little worry as my benefactor powers seem great.
I sometimes took McCullum on a stroll around our base, during the night of course as we were supposed to be in our rooms since he looked bored and was asking me how our plan was going to which I replied it was better than I realised it would be.

Character List
Samelqo: Qemassen: Molot's Temple
As Samelqo descended the steps, the bells he'd tied to his sandals sounded with each footfall—pure ostentation, but their chimes were a comfort.
The night stretched out before him. Tanata’s sky was yet unclouded, the goddess refusing to avert her gaze.
Samelqo stood high above the gardens where Qemassen’s dead lay buried, and where the Massenqa now gathered to watch their king’s sacrifice. No true garden, Molot’s grove was dotted with grave markers in place of trees. The people crowded between them, shouting from fifty feet below. Here and there the litters of the Semassenqa erupted from the mass of peasant bodies, like stones in a stream. Qemassen’s houses were empty tonight.
Molot’s heq-Ashqen stood to the side of the statue, holding a ceremonial death mask in his hands, waiting for Aurelius. Waiting for Samelqo.
As the royal party descended the stairs behind Samelqo, a great hush seized the crowd. Peasant instruments were silenced and crude cheers quieted. Samelqo had rarely seen such attentiveness. All eyes were on the greatest of the Semassenqa.
Samelqo stopped midway across the trunk of the platform. The slaves behind him had fanned out to left and right to stand at the edges of the steps, heads bowed and hands clasped before them.
The drumbeats slowed, and one by one their players dropped out, until a lone instrument beat against the night. Molot’s priest bowed to Samelqo, before approaching with the death-mask held high above his head, his arms stretched tall and proud. The death masks the Massenqa buried with the dead were made of clay or stone, but this one was special, crafted of valuable cedarwood. Its lacquered surface glinted in the light as he lowered it.
Samelqo grasped it. Holding the mask was like holding a venomous serpent—something he would cast from him if he could. Its eyes and mouth were shaped in an exaggerated smile, long and thin, and curved like a blade. Little teeth had been whittled into its mouth, and bands of a lighter wood created sacred circles on its surface.
He could have stared at that face forever and preferred it to the life that awaited him, but such a simple thing was not for the heq-Ashqen. His sense of duty to the Massenqa was stronger than his fear. His hands shook as he held the mask out toward the gardens.
The people stood, and swayed, and trembled amongst the grave markers where Qemassen’s burned dead lay buried in their urns. In that moment they were his, and they were Qemassen's. “A great famine is upon us, as we face warriors from distant lands. They will come with swords, and spears, and with fire; they will ride on a tide of demons and—”
The words dried in Samelqo's throat, flown like specks of sand along the winds. Despite the drum he could hear Aurelius crying behind him. Samelqo turned and knelt before Aurelius. He lifted a wrinkled hand to wipe a tear from the prince’s cheek. “Hush, Sese. Do you know what this is?”
Aurelius looked down at the wooden mask, stifling his sobs. “A laughing mask.” He paused. “Like the ones they made for my brothers and Aunt Meg.”
The king's sister, Meghigda, had been burned last year after a scorpion bite, and Aurelius had watched two stillborn siblings brought to the gardens. He knew what it was Samelqo held. He must. “Yes, just like those.”
“But it's wood.” He was biting his lip, some anxious thought occupying his mind. Samelqo let him battle it out; the city could wait a few moments yet. “It's for me, isn't it?” The prince’s shoulders slumped, eyes and nose crinkling as he cried. He pushed past Samelqo as though to run, but he made it barely two steps before a slave grabbed him by his shoulders.
Samelqo stood up. “You'll be a hero to your people, and to your father and mother, and your older sisters.”
“Mother's dead.”
What?
Samelqo shivered, despite the heat from the great braziers warming his back, barely suppressing the questions that leapt to his lips. How could Moniqa be dead? Had she taken her own life? He could do without Moniqa’s restless spirit haunting his every step. And Eshmunen—had he heard? Samelqo turned to his king, who stood far back toward the temple steps. Eshmunen appeared unmoved. It was just as well. Who knew what doubts the revelation would seed in his mind?
“Hold him,” Samelqo instructed the slave who’d grabbed the prince. Samelqo turned and marched along the branch to the left arm of the statue.
The Massenqa’s chatter was a rumble far below.
“Drums!” Samelqo yelled, and the musicians hurried to their work. He crooked his finger at the slave who held the prince, and as the slave guided Aurelius, Samelqo addressed the crowd again. “A true child of Qemassen dies for you tonight, and sends back Molot's blessing from the Otherworld. He will drink with Elibat on her sacred barge and dwell among those most precious of our stars. You have given your children to Molot, and in return our king matches your piety with his courage.”
Behind him, slaves were busy binding the boy with cord, ready to place him atop Molot’s waiting palm.
Samelqo swallowed, heart thumping, as he focused on the words. “We invoke Abaal and Tanata above. We invoke Molot below. We ask that they send before us those guards who shield them, that they bring us life where none is found. We ask that Qemassen's fields be renewed, its people fed and its wars won. We ask for the deaths of our Lora enemies. Long has Qemassen prevailed, and long may she yet prevail.” Samelqo paused, swallowed the thickness in his throat. “A true child of Qemassen dies for you tonight, and from his ashes you shall feed your fields.”
The slaves carried Aurelius to the edge of the platform, ready to hoist him onto the statue's hand. A large brazier stood just out of sight, below the statue’s fingertips, ready to catch the children who strained from the scorching metal in search of relief. When the fire was fierce enough, its flames sometimes touched the statue itself, but fortunately not tonight. Samelqo would spare Aurelius that sight at least.
The drums ceased. They weren’t supposed to stop—
A strangled cry from behind him broke the silence. Someone in the crowd below was pointing, and soon shouts and screams took hold of the Massenqa in the gardens.
Samelqo swerved, robes flapping, but the view of the temple steps was obscured by the statue. He strode past Aurelius, back toward the temple to see what was happening.
A slave lay sprawled across the temple steps, his blood gushing over the stone.
Samelqo hurried past Molot’s priests and the cluster of guards who’d moved toward him and Aurelius. As Samelqo passed the royal twins, clutched protectively in the arms of their nurses, one of the babes let out a cry, stretching its fingers toward Samelqo's robes.
Samelqo stopped in his tracks. “Erun.”
Moniqa’s little spy, Dashel, stood on the steps beside Eshmunen with a guard's blade in hand. The sword—a bloodied sword—was pressed to the king’s throat. Dashel lifted his head.
Moniqa’s cousin, the Indan Prince Shaqarbas, stood beside Dashel in ceremonial Inda armour. Was this some game of Moniqa’s? Three of Shaqarbas’s men stepped out to either side of Dashel, flanking him protectively, creating a barrier between King Eshmunen and the king’s men. Between Eshmunen and Samelqo.
Samelqo pushed past the last of Eshmunen’s guards and stopped at the foot of the steps. A few more cubits and Samelqo could reach the king, but not with Shaqarbas’s men surrounding him. And Dashel’s hand—it was perilously unsteady. He might cut Eshmunen’s throat if Samelqo wasn’t careful.
Eshmunen spoke before Samelqo had a chance. “My queen's favour brings you only so much freedom, Erun. And you, Shaqarbas, are you so low as to follow a servant?”
Shaqarbas inclined his head, but he was grinning. Samelqo wanted to slap that smirk off his face. “I'm not here for Dashel, Sese. I'm here for the sake of my queen. Massenqen I may be, but I'm still a child of Indas. Your Inda subjects are worried what the burning of her favourite means for us. We thank you for this offering.” He wiggled the point of his sword in the direction of Molot’s statue, and Aurelius. “But is it possible you’ve made a mistake? The Erun seems to think so.”
Samelqo tensed. “King Eshmunen is incapable of mistakes. This is a matter for the gods to decide, not a disenfranchised prince.”
Shaqarbas’s grin faded and he shrugged. The blood of the slave Dashel had killed continued its steady course down the temple steps. “Disenfranchised, perhaps, but lacking neither men nor steel.”
“What is it you want?” King Eshmunen indicated the seething confusion now taking place in the gardens below. “The people came here for blood and they'll have it, whether it belongs to my son or a few petty rebels.”
Samelqo took a step forward. One of Shaqarbas’s men swung his sword down, the blade coming within an inch of Samelqo’s face. Samelqo glared past the weapon, meeting Shaqarbas’s gaze. He laid his hand on the blade, ignoring the pain as its edge dug into him, as his blood trickled down the flat of the sword. If the prince thought Samelqo would back down, he was both deluded and forgetful. “This sacrifice is as much for Indas as Qemassen. The boy's death heralds unity for our city, not discord—”
“You can't have him,” Dashel interrupted.
Samelqo turned toward him. Dashel was trembling, the weapon he held lowered, obviously too heavy for him.
If Samelqo could make it past Shaqarbas’s guards, past the prince . . . he’d bested Shaqarbas once before, long ago, when his need had been just as great. But he’d been young then, and he’d had a weapon—well, a chair—to beat the prince over the head with. And surprise had won him that fight. Shaqarbas was twice—three times—Samelqo’s size and half his age.
“I don't care about Molot, or Abaal, or any of that,” Dashel continued. “Aurelius is my prince and you can't have him. You won't have him. I―I'll kill the king if you burn him.” Dashel raised his stained weapon to the king's throat, hands shaking from strain. Shaqarbas glared Dashel's way, but held his position. If he doubted Dashel’s plan so, he shouldn’t have been foolish enough to follow him.
Eshmunen breathed out deeply, closing his eyes as though released from some great burden.
Samelqo gripped the sword harder. “If the king dies, you'll soon follow.” Samelqo’s best option was to keep Dashel and Shaqarbas talking, to give the guards in the gardens below time to sneak inside the temple from the streetside entrance and take Dashel’s people from behind.
“Then it's a question of how much you value your king,” said Shaqarbas. “Surely though, the death of son and father both will cast a brighter flame for the cow-god's pleasure? And if we die too, well, that's a lot of death to fill his belly.”
In the gardens below, the Massenqa were yelling. Samelqo glanced down, to his right. The crowds there were so thick that Eshmunen’s guards would never reach the king in time. Some of the Semassenqa were fleeing the gardens in their sheltered litters. “It is not about the death. It is about sacrifice, and murder is not sacrifice.”
Shaqarbas snorted. “How comforting for the young prince.”
For a moment, the cries of the Massenqa in the gardens were like the rushing of those black waters in that deep cave, churning against the walls. A princess’s face disappeared beneath the water as he shoved her under, and the water slapped his cheeks. He looked up, at Eshmunen. Was this, then, what the gods required? Had he never been in command?
“Sese! Heq-Ashqen!” One of his acolytes burst from the open doors of the temple and raced down the first few steps, but two of Shaqarbas’s warriors grabbed him.
“Let me pass,” he insisted. “I have news for the heq-Ashqen.”
Samelqo fixed his gaze, and his hopes, on the young man refusing to be threatened away. “Let him pass,” Samelqo pressed Shaqarbas. “A sign of good faith—his news may affect all of us.”
Shaqarbas hesitated a moment, then nodded at one of his men, who patted the priest down before allowing him to pass. The acolyte shuffled past the others, and Samelqo released his hold on the sword, wincing at the sting. He stepped back, giving his acolyte space.
The acolyte leaned in and whispered, his words frenzied. “It's the queen, Sese. Moniqa is dead.”
Samelqo's chest was heavy as stone. So it was true. He eyed his king. Eshmunen could not be told, not now. Samelqo would rather the king never be told, but that was impossible. “How?”
“A slave found her in her garden. Pierced at the breast—laid out with her weapon beside her.” He lowered his gaze out of respect. “Suicide, Sese.”
“Did no one see her leave her rooms?” He’d posted a guard at her door—surely she couldn’t have slipped past. Something was amiss.
“We don't know, but she was quite hidden, Sese, beneath the lilacs.”
Someone knew, and someone saw, or how else had Aurelius come by the knowledge? Had Aurelius been in the lilac groves? What had he been doing there? Samelqo swallowed. He wouldn’t put it past Moniqa to take Aurelius there with the intention of killing them both, if only to grant her son a swift death.
The cold crawled in on him suddenly. He looked up. Dashel, Shaqarbas, and the other traitors were staring.
Shaqarbas caught his gaze. “What’s your little mouse tittering now, heq-Ashqen? Speak up.”
Neither Samelqo nor his acolyte did any such thing, and Samelqo glared back at the messenger, holding up a hand to stay Shaqarbas. “Explain,” he whispered.
“Her maids were found dead, Sese.” The acolyte paused. “The guard outside her door is injured but alive. Perhaps he will tell us more when he wakes.”
Or perhaps not. “We can only pray he does. In the meantime, inform no one.”
The acolyte didn't look surprised. He stepped away from Samelqo and bowed.
“What news, priest?” Shaqarbas cocked his head pointedly in the direction of Dashel and Eshmunen. Dashel's arm had proved too weak to hold the sword to Eshmunen's neck so long, but he raised it again as Samelqo turned his way.
Something. Samelqo needed something to tell him—ideally something that would change Shaqarbas’s mind. “The Lora have landed in eq-Anout,” he said. What was one more stone to add to the dead weights hanging unseen from his priestly robes?
Shaqarbas looked out over the waiting crowds. “And you honestly believe killing this Indan boy will send them back?”
“What I believe is of no concern. I know the gods will look favourably on Qemassen for offering one of our own. He is as much Eshmunen's son as Moniqa’s. He is no simple Indan boy.”
A true child of Qemassen. A true prince of the Massenqa.
“The twins,” Dashel sputtered. “Father told me it was traditional to pledge a baby to Molot before it was born. He said they only gave older children if the baby was born dead.”
He wasn’t wrong. Typically a child was promised before birth. Most often this had been the eldest son, and if a second son was never born, it was thought a judgement of the gods. But Eshmunen’s twins had never been possible sacrifices. The Book of Abaal promised one of them would save Qemassen, would be a great king. Did Dashel think he hadn't considered this? “The seventh is the heir. And you are a hypocrite. Burning Aurelius is murder, but the death of the twins something else?”
Dashel's expression hung dark and hollow, his words halting, choked. Samelqo bristled that Dashel would dare feel such things. “I don't know the twins. The seventh is the heir, but there's a sixth.”
A feeble boy, cursed with sweet urine and unlikely to live long. Burning him in Aurelius’s place might even be a kindness, might shorten his suffering.
But he was a boy—a boy child who should he survive could be the king Qemassen required. And the girl—Samelqo had thought the female twin the true seventh, but could it be that he’d been mistaken? Could the gods have made a mistake? They would not have sent a girl to save the city.
And with Moniqa and her slaves now dead—the only others who’d been present at the birth—no one would know the difference.
The gods would know.
A babe's wail cut the stillness. It was the female twin, swaddled close against her wet nurse's breast. Had it been she who’d reached for him as he’d rushed toward the king? Had it been her, or her brother?
There was also Eshmunen to think of. Samelqo glanced up at his king, at the steel pressed to his flesh. Dashel's hand was frighteningly unsteady, his grip unskilled. It would be so easy for him to sever that royal throat, either by accident or design. It didn't seem so long since Eshmunen himself had been a child, looking to Samelqo for guidance, for reassurance that his queen would be kind when she arrived, that she would love him.
Samelqo's throat was impossibly tight.
There had been so much blood following the birth and they'd been so worried for Moniqa’s life. The gods might have intended the boy to be born second, and somehow Samelqo had been confused.
He turned away from them all, facing Molot's golden back. It was said children given to Molot lived in the finest of palaces, and grew to adulthood in silks far fairer than those of any earthly prince or princess.
Aurelius stood propped up by the slaves who'd bound him, shivering in spite of the heat. He was staring at Samelqo, staring with that face not so different from Eshmunen’s family, despite that Moniqa claimed him as her own.
Samelqo felt something snap inside him. “Cut his bonds.”
The slaves did as they were told. Aurelius stumbled as the cords fell at his feet, but one of the men caught him. Soon he was on his own and running toward Dashel. The Erun lowered his weapon. Shaqarbas nodded to his men and they too fell back, allowing the guards who lingered at the temple's entrance to tend to their king. Samelqo took the measure of each of them, memorizing their faces. They’d pay later.
He turned from them once he was sure Eshmunen was safe and seen to. The wet nurses with the twins were still beside him.
In the darkness, Samelqo caught the eyes of the woman holding the female child. He hadn't remembered them being so green, or her skin so pale. Hair the colour of spun gold peeked out from behind her hood, her expression cold where it had been fearful a moment ago.
“Bring her.” The gods had meant for this. The boy was the true seventh, the girl a test. A princess taken for one given.
The yellow-haired wet nurse bowed. “Yes, Sese.”
As she approached, a rueful smile twisted her thin lips, her green eyes brighter than they should be in this darkness. There was something wrong with her. Something unearthly in her face, her pose. A downy grey feather lay curled on her shoulder. Samelqo found himself unable to turn away. It seemed she saw past his clothing and flesh to his naked spirit. Who was this foreigner? Some whore or goddess? Not his Tanata, nor the goddess Ashtet. No, this was a creature of the earthy darkness.
She stood in front of him, and Samelqo felt as though they were the only two people for miles.
“Bride of Molot,” Samelqo breathed. “Qalita.”
The slave knelt down, child held tight against her.
“Sese?” spoke a woman’s voice. When the slave looked up a Massenqa face stared back at Samelqo, her deep brown eyes red-rimmed from crying.
Samelqo rubbed his tired hands against his face. Did the gods speak to him, or was this madness stealing in? “Rise, child. Give the princess to me.”
The girl was heavy in his arms as he lifted her up and carried her toward the platform. Her little hands wriggled free of her blanket, reaching for Samelqo's talisman, straining against his grip. He should have spoken to Eshmunen before making the choice, but there hadn't been time. If the king had minded, he would have spoken. It was the right thing; it resolved everything.
Back in Indas, beneath the city streets of Tintellan, Samelqo struggled not to feel it as she pulled for him. Tried not to see it as he plunged her beneath the water.
Samelqo shook his head, dizzy. It was the smoke, the heat of the afternoon. He was in Qemassen, above Molot’s gardens. That dank cave and its black waters were a phantom memory, nothing more. “Is there enough rope left?” he asked one of the attending slaves.
“Yes, Sese.”
Samelqo handed the baby to the slave, her absence like winter cold gnawing the skin beneath his robes.
The people below were watching again, though there seemed fewer than before.
The drums started up again, without the need for Samelqo’s command. He turned to look and caught sight of Eshmunen staring on, Aurelius clinging to Dashel.
Samelqo sighed. Eshmunen’s father would have executed the Erun and his Inda conspirators, but Samelqo already knew Eshmunen had pardoned them in his heart.
The baby screamed. Samelqo snapped his attention back to her, back to Molot’s cruel hands as she was lowered onto the god’s left palm, the death mask newly placed over her face. Samelqo began his vigil. His eyes never strayed from her, though he commanded the drums be beaten louder to hide her cries from her father.
The flames were still low in the brazier, but the golden hand was hot, and seared her where she touched it. She clutched at the air, at the golden statue, rolling, wailing, till she slipped from Molot’s embrace and into the flaming brazier. He watched the flames swaddle her, watched as her skin blistered and cracked. After a time, her wails quieted, all sensation lost as her skin sloughed away. The wooden death mask had slipped to the side, wreathed in flame.
A princess for a princess. He swallowed, tasting smoke, fighting back a cough. He would name her—name the pair of them. Even a dead princess of Qemassen deserved a name.
“We call her Ashtara, for she dies with Ashtet's star above her. We call our future king Ashtaroth, for he is born with Ashtet's star above him. In the hands of children we place the destiny of Qemassen. The phoenix wanes only to be born again. The serpent sheds itself into the sand, yet crawls away to birth its hundred young. The many-eyed gods of our heavens watch us tonight. Molot cleanses us, and Abaal shall slay our enemies.”
Though he wanted to look away, Samelqo could not. He slipped a wrinkled hand inside the pocket of his robe, curling his fingers around the parchment he’d displayed before the Semassenqa that evening. He lifted it from its hidden place and unrolled it, though his gaze remained fixed on the girl. Her dead mouth had never looked more alive, stretched in a grim rictus of a smile. Her lips gaped too wide as the skin around them melted away.
The heq-Ashqen took a step toward the edge of the platform, hand unsteady as a gust caught his outstretched arm. It had been so still earlier, so dry and dead. Already the air was alive again. Samelqo let go of the parchment, eyes forced shut as a stray breeze billowed stinging smoke into his face. When he opened them, he was no longer looking at the girl, but at the paper he'd just let loose. He watched dispassionately as the flames caught its surface, erasing, for a time, his indiscretion, as it burned away the news of the attack on Zimrida. Perhaps a day would come when a real messenger would arrive bearing such news, but that day was not this one, and for now, Samelqo had succeeded in warding off destruction and hunger. Eshmunen was weak in ways it was natural for a man to be weak, but he had Samelqo beside him, to correct his course.
The city had been starving. The waters had dried and the people had been desperate. A sacrifice had needed to be made, and as ever, Samelqo's duty had been to the people of Qemassen.

NFL Draft week 10 Mock Draft 2 round w/ Explanations

The order is based on Tankathon with no trades.
1.) NY Jets- Trevor Lawrence-QB
It really doesn’t matter who is picking here T Law goes 1st. This guy is the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck and has been playing against the top tier competition since he was a freshman. Also, those golden locks are more marketable than Luck’s thick beard ever was so he should do well in NY
2.) Jacksonville Jaguars-Justin Fields-QB
Minshew Mania is finally subsiding and as Duval County comes out of their haze of jean shorts and 80s inspired mustaches they see Fields ready to take the reins. Fields is coming out of the very QB friendly offense in Ohio State where he was given ample opportunity to show off his arm, decision making, and athleticism. Fields will have to have to adjust to a pro offense but his football IQ and progression ability seems higher than the last few QBs out of Columbus so he should be fine.
3.) Washington Football Team-Penei Sewell-OT
The Washington Football Team has a lot of holes to fill on offense including QB, LT, and WR. With top prospects on the board at each position they opt for the generational talent in the trenches and keep moving. Kyle Smith loves going BPA in the trenches, see WFTs DL for proof, and will have his mouth watering to grab the heir to Trent Williams’ throne. Also, I think Rivera has faith in his QB room at the moment to hold the reins for a year or two while a developmental guy is brought in in rounds 2/3. Sewell is a “cant miss” prospect and should anchor that LT position for 5-10 years and could develop further as he is just 20 years old.
4.) Dallas Cowboys-Patrick Surtain II-CB
At this point I think Dallas would be looking to trade out with a team that has fallen in love with Parsons, Chase, or Rousseau to get more picks and retool that entire defense. But, in the “No Trade” universe Jerry stands pat and takes the best player on the board at a position of need in Surtain. Surtain is a true shutdown corner in the making with NFL lineage, his biggest weakness is tackling but if your Corner is doing a ton of that there are other issues to deal with.
5.) LA Chargers- Gregory Rousseau-EDGE
The Chargers came into the draft hoping that Sewell would fall to them and if he didn’t then they would likely trade out. But, we’re in the no trade universe so the Chargers look at their big board and decide to pick the best pass rusher available in Rousseau. The Miami product opted out of the 2020 season but there is good tape on him from the year prior and an athleticism that is hard to pass up. Also, Rousseau replaces Melvin Ingram for a much cheaper price than the UFA would ask for.
6.) Miami Dolphins via HOU- Micah Parsons-LB
Brian Flores would be sprinting to the podium to make this pick himself if Parsons is still on the board. Miami has a hole in the middle of their 3-4 and Parsons could be the dynamic playmaker to take the defense to a new level. The Penn State product is a fantastic athlete with good if not great instinct at the position. Additionally Parsons can be moved all around the defense with the ability to play at Edge rusher as well.
7.) Cincinnati Bengals-Ja’Marr Chase-WR
The Bengals have needs across the offensive line but cannot pass up the opportunity to reunite Joey B with his favorite target at the next level and get an elite talent in the process. Chase has the ability and Size to be a true number 1 at the next level and should pair nicely with Tee Higgins as the replacement for AJ Green.
8.) NY Giants- Kwity Paye-EDGE/DL
Credit given where credit is due, Joe Judge has transformed the defense in New York. But his fantastic defense is missing one key component, a strong pass rusher on the edge. Enter Kwity Paye who can set the edge with a solid combination of size and speed but also kick inside with his 277 Lb frame. Paye is a slight reach at the number 8 pick but it is hard to find Edge rushers with his potential if the Giants had waited until their second pick to grab one.
9.) Carolina Panthers-Kyle Pitts-TE
A moment of silence for the LBs that will face the Panthers this year. Pitts represents a matchup nightmare on most teams, with the Panthers though it goes to another level. Pitts takes some of the focus off of CMC while making it near impossible to be doubled because of the shifty running back, meaning he creates better matchups for one of the best weapons in the league. Pitts is an athlete who runs a wide receiver route tree at 6’5” 240 with soft hands and a willingness to block not much else you could want at his position.
10.) Atlanta Falcons-Caleb Farley-CB
Atlanta is stuck between a rebuild and a win now mentality because of Matt Ryan. The franchise QB has 3 years left on his contract and no easy out, cutting Ryan this year would incur $85 million in dead cap. So, because of that the Falcons fill a hole at Corner with Farley who should start from day one. Farley is a former WR who is presses well and plays the ball outstandingly, the only concerns might be zone concepts at the next level.
11.) Denver Broncos- Dylan Moses-LB
Although Broncos fans may want to see Drew Lock’s replacement picked here, John Elway keeps the faith and gives his guy another year. Instead he turns to the defense who is sorely lacking a leader in the middle of the field and picks Dylan Moses. Moses is the MLB in Alabama and should fit in to a similar role at the next level with a solid frame and good playmaking ability, his only weakness is that he is caught sometimes trying too hard rather than taking what the offense gives him.
12.) San Francisco 49rs-Zach Wilson-QB
The Niners are ready to move on from Jimmy G, and have a team friendly cut available. Also, Shanahan is known for having a QB friendly offense so it should be easier for a rookie QB to grasp and hit the ground running in San Fran. Wilson is the best combination of Pro Ready and Talent left on the board, despite running a spread offense in college, Wilson is seen on tape going through progressions and looking off Safeties already and has a cannon for an arm. The issues with Wilson come in his mechanics as he doesn’t set his feet as often as he should but this is coachable.
13.) Detroit Lions- DeVonta Smith-WR
The Lions have their top 3 WRs going into free agency this offseason and it is unlikely they retain all three. Also, The Lions still have Matt Stafford for one more year at least before a team friendly cut is available. To maximize the year Stafford has left along with setting the table for the next Franchise QB the Lions get a weapon with elite potential and shift the focus to defense for the next few rounds.
14.) Minnesota Vikings-Wyatt Davis-IOL
The Vikings would really love to move on from Kirk Cousins, in this “No Trade” world they can’t without cutting him which would incur 50 million in dead cap over two years. So like the Falcons their hand is forced to fill a need, fortunately for the Vikings, their biggest need is IOL and they get their pick of the top IOL prospects in this draft. Davis is an outstanding guard with few weaknesses and NFL bloodlines, he should start right away.
15.) New England Patriots-Jaylen Waddle-WR
For most other franchises with the Patriots pick/needs I would have mocked a QB here but this franchise is in the unique position of having a GOAT Head Coach/GM who is trying to win one more ring before retirement. Because of this I see the Pats picking a weapon who can help them immediately while grabbing a veteran like Jimmy G or sticking with Cam. Waddle represents the potential number 1 they have been missing since an aging Randy Moss walked into the practice facility. The WR has speed that would make Lightning McQueen jealous and sure hands. Waddles only issue is that he needs to expand the route tree.
16.) Chicago Bears- Alex Leatherwood-OL
The Bears are a strangely built team, on one hand they don’t have a QB of the future so they are primed for a rebuild. On the other hand they have lots of money and veteran talent tied up in the next year. This makes me think they are gunning for a playoff run this next year and if that doesn’t work out then clean house. Meaning, they pass on a QB that they need going forward and grab Leatherwood who should play immediately at LT should they move on from Leno or at one of the guard positions if they don’t.
17.) Cleveland Browns- Carlos Basham Jr.-EDGE
The Browns has a good offense that should compete in the AFC North going forward, their defense on the other hand could use some tuning up. Given the QBs in the division the easiest way to upgrade your defense is to grab someone who specializes in the pass rush. Basham Jr has all the skills right now to be a productive pass rusher while also being versatile enough to play the 5 tech in running situations. Basham’s only shortcoming as a prospect is that his athleticism doesn’t impress and may limit the potential he has as a top level pass rusher.
18.) Tennessee Titans- Joseph Ossai-EDGE
Tennessee tried to paper over their pass rush problems through the offseason with the pickup of Vic Beasley which did not work out. There is clearly a hole in the Edge/OLB role of that 3-4 which Ossai could really grow into. Ossai is a very raw prospect with lots of potential and positional flexibility, projections show him as a WLB or pure EDGE rusher. A 3-4 OLB would be a perfect mix of the two roles and should allow the athletic prospect to flourish
19.) Philadelphia Eagles-Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah-LB
Due to the absolute suck fest that is the NFC East this year, the Eagles earn a playoff birth that they are promptly defeated during and their reward is a much crappier draft pick than their team warrants. Luckily for them a top prospect is still available at a position of need. Owusu-Koramoah would slot in the WLB position from day one and should be an upgrade on everyone on the roster while providing a necessary amount of athleticism in a division which includes Barkley, Elliot, and Gibson
20.) Arizona Cardinals- Pat Freiermuth-TE
Kyler Murray looks good enough early on that he may not need a security blanket like most QBs his age but the Cards give him one anyways. Similar to the situation that Kyle Pitts walked into, Freiermuth is going into an absolutely stacked receiver group in Arizona and will operate in the middle to ensure single coverage to Nuk, Fitz, and Kirk. Freiermuth is more of a traditional TE, think Gronk style of play, but should still create matchups to take advantage of due to his sheer Size, Speed, and Physicality.
21.) NY Jets via SEA- Rashod Bateman-WR
The Jets are a team that has lots of needs and should probably go with BPA through the first few rounds. Although there are some good corners on the board, the prospect of giving their new Franchise QB a favorite target is tantalizing. Ultimately they pick Bateman as a receiver opposite Crowder and Mims. Bateman should step right in as a red zone threat while catching contested balls and having some sneaky YAC ability. The only drawback to his game is that he plays like a traditional possession receiver while lacking the size to pull it off at times
22.) Miami Dolphins- Rondale Moore-WR
The Dolphins get a WR to pair with DeVante Parker and make Tua’s life just a bit easier in Miami. Moore is coming out of Perdue with some impressive tape under his belt albeit while being a touch undersized at 5’9” 175. Moore will slip right into the slot and can be a threat after the catch on slants and bubble routes or a deep threat on the seam route.
23.) Indianapolis Colts-Mac Jones-QB
Honestly this pick heavily is impacted by Philip Rivers’ potential retirement. If Rivers decided to come back after this year I could see the Colts taking a shot on Trey Lance essentially redshirting him and letting him learn from Old Man Rivers. However, I bet that Rivers will retire and in this case leading the Colts to the playoffs in the process. The Colts will still need a QB but is going to need someone who can start reliably on day one, of the three major QB prospects left Mac Jones is the most pro ready prospect and has faced a high level of competition while taking over for Tua last year and this year facing the whole of the SEC. Lastly, I don’t see the Colts trading for a QB/Signing one because they got recently burnt on Jacoby Brissett.
24.) Baltimore Ravens- Creed Humphrey-IOL
The Ravens have a fantastic defense with the only hole being at the FS position after the Earl Thomas incident(s) and the Ngakoue trade. I see Ngakoue staying in Baltimore if the money can be figured out so the holes that need to be addressed are the FS and on Offense. At this pick, the isn’t a lot of value at the Safety and WR positions so in the “No Trade” universe the Ravens solidify the interior offensive line with the best IOL on the board at the moment. Humphrey was a consistent starter at a top level program in Oklahoma, called plays at Center and should have the football IQ and athleticism to move to G if necessary at the next level
25.) Jaguars via LAR-Samuel Cosmi
The Jaguars have their QB of the future and get some insurance protection in the same round with Cosmi. Cosmi has lots of starting experience at a top tier college program and still has room to grow at only 21. Could add some weight to his frame but as is he is extremely athletic and has the capability of a mauling tackle who can hold down his position.
26.) Las Vegas Raiders- Marvin Wilson-DT
The Raiders need help all along the DL and could take one of the Edge rushers that are left but ultimately the one of the top DTs is still on the board in Wilson. Gruden has good starters with Hankins and Collins but they are both UFAs and have little depth behind them currently. Wilson gives the organization flexibility at either technique if either of the starters go down injured or aren’t signed and has lots of potential if he can develop a secondary rushing move.
27.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Christian Darrisaw-OT
At this point the name of the game is protect the old GOAT. Darrisaw has been starting games in a top five conference since 2016 and has been impressive every step of the way. Darrisaw has a nice frame and could put a few Lbs on as he transitions to the next level but needs to keep control of his footwork while doing so.
28.) Buffalo Bills- Shaun Wade-CB
The Bills need someone who can hold down the spot opposite of Tre’Davious White for the long term so they wait through the draft and Wade falls into their lap. In many mocks Wade is off the board earlier than this and for good reason. Wade played at Ohio State who is lauded for their DB development with several first rounders under their belt. Wade specifically has the ability to play both inside and outside while being an aggressive cover man.
29.) Green Bay Packers-Terrace Marshall Jr.-WR
The Packers are in a weird spot coming into this draft, while they are still successful the Pack have an aging Aaron Rodgers to keep happy but also drafted Jordan Love last year around this spot. Honestly if Green Bay decided to fill holes on Defense with this pick Aaron Rodgers could try to skip town. To keep the Hall of Famer happy the Packers finally get him a first round weapon in Marshall who has been climbing up boards lately while showing out for LSU. Marshall is a hulking possession receiver who rarely drops a pass while being athletic enough to create separation. Rodgers and Devonte Adams will be thrilled to have another high ceiling skill guy in the locker room
30.) Kansas City Chiefs-Trey Smith-IOL
With question marks surrounding the return of Austin Reiter from Free Agency and Kelechi Osemele from returning to the medical field during COVID the Chiefs take a safe pick in grabbing Trey Smith to insure the protection of their Star assets. Smith should slot right in to the starting lineup should one or both of them not return and the offense wouldn’t skip a beat.
31.) New Orleans Saints- Jevon Holland-S
With Trey Lance on the board Sean Payton passes?!? Yes, this is due mostly to two factors: Cap Crunch & Coaching Context. From a Cap Crunch perspective, the Saints currently have over $275 Million in expected expenditures under the cap and will need to fill holes in the secondary as there are 6 UFAs including their starting SS. Also, financially the Saints are invested heavily in the QB position with $36 Million headed Brees’ way and $16 Mil headed to Taysom Hill. Secondly, from a coaching perspective I am unsure if Sean Payton is enthusiastic about starting over again with a rookie. For evidence I point to the multiple high profile backups like Bridgewater and Winston. I think Payton much prefers experience in the league especially with a team built for a Super Bowl run. I think Lance would not meet the expectations of the shoes he would need to fill right away for the money being spent in other positions. Holland, would come in likely start at SS and fill in at slot CB when necessary and patch up the back end for a team poised to win a Championship.
32.) Pittsburg Steelers-Travis Etienne-RB
The Steelers are in a bit of a Cap Crunch next year, they have $200 million in current expenditures and only $6 million in cap to carry over from year to year with projected cap space potentially not growing due to COVID. Some of their UFAs include Juju Smith-Schuster, James Conner, Alejandro Villanueva, & Bud Dupree to name a few. In this situation the Steelers decide to let the RB go and get his replacement in the draft. Etienne will come in day one as the starter and bring a shocking combination of speed and size to the running back position that should bring more explosiveness to the Steelers Offense.
Round 2
33.) NY Jets- Quincy Roche-EDGE
The Jets only have one edge rusher for their 3-4 defense under contract for 2021. Given that edge rushers are typically going for top dollar in free agency I suspect they fill the need here for a starter with Roche. The Miami product is probably best suited for the 3-4 edge role as he is a touch undersized for the 5 tech that a 4-3 DE needs to play on occasion. Roche has really good hips and athletic potential, will need to put on some weight and learn how to cover in the next level.
34.) Jacksonville Jaguars- Christian Barmore-DT
The Jaguars need a space eater in the middle of their defense and Barmore is a 6’5” tackle with great technique to hold up blockers and bring double teams on. This is a good matach and the Jags get value here, although Barmore does have a relative rawness to him due to a lack of snaps at Alabama
35.) Dallas Cowboys- Hamsah Nasirildeen-S
The Cowboys need help at both safety positions and move to get Nasirildeen. The Florida State prospect projects to an in the box safety who plays fast and physical in the run and can hold his own in the pass. Nasirildeen slipped due to an ACL injury he sustained in the past along with some questions about his ball skills
36.) LA Chargers- Liam Eichenberg-OT
The Chargers finally get their QB some protection in the second with Eichenberg. Eichenberg should slot right into the LT spot and has very few issues besides fixing his footwork.
37.) Miami via HOU- Jayson Oweh-EDGE
Miami has a need at 3-4 edge rusher which they select Oweh to fill. Oweh has gobs of potential and athleticism but is very raw. Oweh was third string all of last year and has shown in 2020 to be weak against the run. If Oweh can refine his tech and be placed in a system centered around pass rush he can be great.
38.) Washington Football Team- Trey Lance-QB
REMINDER THIS IS A NO TRADE DRAFT, TREY LANCE WILL CERTAINLY BE GONE BEFORE THE END OF THE FIRST ROUND IN A DRAFT WITH TRADES. With that out of the way, Lance falls to the WFT in the second and all of the sudden Washington has a Franchise QB and LT in the same draft. Of course there are the caveats that make other teams pass on him: his arm is huge but so is the bust potential. Trey Lance could be the next Josh Allen IF he is able to get his footwork under control, learn to hang in the pocket, learn NFL progressions, and stop staring down receivers. But WFT has Kyle Allen or Alex Smith to start the season with and could redshirt Lance until they are out of playoff contention. They are under little to no pressure to “win now” like the Bears, Saints, and Colts are and thus the risk is mitigated exponentially especially with picking Lance in the 2nd
39.) Cincinnati Bengals-Dillon Radunz-OT
How weird is it that the NDSU guys go back to back in this draft? Despite the obvious questionable competition in college Radunz did dominate in pass pro with NFL caliber size and technique. However, he lacks the punch/first step necessary in the run game with consistency and has an issue with getting out of his stance at times. Bengals care about the pass pro more at the moment so they grab him.
40.) Carolina Panthers- Jaycee Horn-CB
The Panthers Defense is much more formidable unit than they were than just one short year ago but they still need some talent in the secondary. Jaycee Horn should be able to fix this while bringing length and SEC experience. He could see some issues with fluidity or double moves but coaching should fix this at the next level.
41.) NY Giants- Rashawn Slater-OL
The Giants selected two tackles last year in an effort to keep Danny Dimes from being strip sacked last year but it hasn’t quite fixed the issue so far. To bring in some more young help, they take Rashawn Slater. Slater has played RT in the Big Ten for years and is well regarded for his Pass Pro and has the frame that could kick in to OG. The positional flexibility that he brings makes up for some stiffness in his stance for the Giants and they take him.
42.) Denver Broncos-Trevon Moehrig-S
The Broncos continue to help their defense by adding Moehrig to their back end in replacement of Justin Simmons. Moehrig is the best FS available in the draft and excels in the single high coverage where he can play center field and take the deepest man over the middle. Although Moehrig does have a tackling issue, it shouldn’t be a huge issue as the single high safety shouldn’t be making tackles
43.) Atlanta Falcons-Tyson Campbell-CB
Falcons decide to double dip at corner because the cupboard is bare right now. They take one half of the Georgia duo that is turning heads at the moment and go for Tyson Campbell. Campbell is a bit longer and can put more size on his frame with fewer weaknesses. Campbell needs to produce a bit more in the next level but his perceived lack of stats could be due to QBs throwing away from him in college.
44.) San Francisco 49rs-Eric Stokes-CB
The Niners are in a similar situation with their CBs as Atlanta except a bit worse as there are none under contract for next year. They take the other half of the Georgia duo, Eric Stokes. Stokes has a similar experience and coverage qualities as Campbell but has iffy ball playing skills and is an inch shorter and a step slower.
45.) Jacksonville via MIN-Asante Samuel Jr.-CB
Jacksonville sees CBs go back to back and decide to grab one to replace DJ Hayden. Asante Samuel is a fantastic off the ball cover man and has NFL lineage that should provide him some guidance going forward. Samuel Jr is undersized and will likely struggle in press but if he winds up in the slot or playing in a zone scheme he should do well.
46.) New England Patriots- Brevin Jordan-TE
New England loves their TEs and pick up another athletic guy to fill the position with Jordan. Jordan is a natural athlete who likes to get down and dirty in the trenches when asked. The route tree is very much in question for Jordan and will likely have to be developed.
47.) Detroit Lions- Jay Tufele-DT
The Lions run a hybrid defense similar to the Patriots due to Matt Patricia, in those successful hybrid defenses there is usually DTs that can shade in the 1 and 3 techs. Jay Tufele can be that DT for the Lions having filled a similar role at USC. Tufele has a problem with consistency from rep to rep which does worry me but with proper coaching it could be stomped out.
48.) Chicago Bears-Kyle Trask-QB
The Bears filled their biggest need on the OL and still had a highly rated QB fall into their laps in the 2nd round. Without many other glaring needs on their roster to fill they take Trask with the thought that he sits behind Foles through the rest of his contract. Trask is very raw as a prospect and just got his first taste of starting at the QB position ever while at Florida. If he can develop behind the starter he could turn into a good but not great QB.
49.) Tennessee Titans-Derion Kendrick-CB
Kendrick is new to playing CB, he’s only been playing there for two years, but is incredibly gifted. His ball skills are top tier and man coverage is sticky but he will have to learn proper technique for coverage on double moves and get better at zone coverage to develop into a game changer at the next level.
50.) Cleveland Browns-Nick Bolton-LB
Bolton is a thumping old school LB who blitzes well and plays downhill getting to the ball. The Browns could fit him in at WLB or MLB and he could start throughout the season and will energize the side. The largest drawback to Bolton’s game is that he lacks fluidity, once he is headed to a gap or engages a lineman he gets stuck in it.
51.) Philadelphia Eagles-Chris Olave-WR
Olave is a fluid route runner who is able to run a nearly full tree right off the bat. His athleticism isn’t terrifying any defenses but Olave is a crafty WR who should get going right away. The Eagles can place him into the slot and let him take advantage of the space created by Alshon Jeffery and Jalen Reagor
52.) Seattle Seahawks-Paulson Adebo-CB
The Seahawks use their first draft pick of the 2021 draft to upgrade their secondary by taking the west coast CB Adebo. Adebo is a prototypical outside corner and has the length that Pete Caroll loves combined with solid cover technique and pressing ability. Although he can get lost in zone or washed out in the middle of the field
53.) Miami Dolphins-Najee Harris-RB
During this selection, Miami moves on from Matt Breida and fills a need at RB. Harris will be in the same backfield as Tua once again and will have to prove that he can continue to be a productive runner without the gaps that an Alabama offensive line is capable of creating
54.) Indianapolis Colts-Amon-Ra St. Brown-WR
The Colts got their QB in the first so they give him someone to throw to in the second. Brown is 6’1” with good size and speed, although the route running is question this combination of Size, Speed, and Separation is hard to ignore.
55.) Baltimore Ravens-Patrick Jones II-EDGE
Without a ton of WR names that jump off the board at the moment, Baltimore decides to stash some talent at edge rusher with Patrick Jones II. Jones has moments where he looks like an athletic sack artist and others where he looks pedestrian. If Baltimore can coach him up to come up with secondary pass rushing moves and winning more contested match ups he could be a good pickup.
56.) Arizona Cardinals- Israel Mukuamu-CB
The board does not fall well for the Cards as there was a surge of CBs taken in the second rounds and they end up reaching for one of their bigger needs with Mukuamu. However, they do get an athletic 6’4” SEC starter for their troubles.
57.) Las Vegas Raiders-Chazz Surratt-LB
Chazz Surratt is even a perfect LB name and has the attitude to fit, Surratt is seen flying around the field on tape. Surratt converted from QB in college and is new to the position so he’ll bring to the field and different football perspective on defense as well which is unique. Although the downside to Surratt’s game is over pursuit and over running the play, if the D coordinator can teach the guy some control he can be really productive.
58.) LA Rams-Jalen Mayfield-OT
The Rams were one pick away from Surratt who would’ve fit fantastically into their system but instead come away with a tackle to protect Jared Goff and take over for Whitworth. Initially Mayfield will likely kick inside to guard but after a year or two of experience in the NFL should be able to protect on the edge, this transition is perfect as he struggled in college on the edge so it would mitigate one of his largest weakness at the moment.
59.) Buffalo Bills-Josh Myers-IOL
Josh Myers played C for the offensive lines which protected Justin Fields cleanly and helped JK Dobbins break out. For a Center he is mobile but doesn’t exhibit extraordinary finishing ability or football IQ. However, he should fight for a starting spot due to his pulling ability next to Mitch Morse in Buffalo
60.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Jordan Davis-NT
Jordan Davis is the typical 2 gap huge nose tackle that modern defenses undervalue but sit at the heart of a good 3-4. Davis has the size and ability to command double teams while stuffing the run. However, he can be inconsistent and has film that shows him as easy to move, coaches will likely hammer on the basics of leverage to correct. Also his move provides depth for Vita Vea and cover for Suh leaving
61.) Green Bay Packers-Jaylen Twyman-DT
Now that Rodgers is happy the Pack can get to work on retooling the defense starting with Twyman. Twyman is a 3 tech which specializes in solid pass rushing and could be perfect for the move to DE in a 3-4. Although Twyman has issues in the run game, mainly being washed out at times, he would be taking less double teams and working against a guards outside shoulder.
62.) Kansas City Chiefs-Kadarius Toney-WR
Andy Reid and co. get another wideout who plays more like a weapon and will likely utilize him in an incredibly fluid way. Also, Toney could take the pressure off of Tyreek Hill in the return game as well.
63.) New Orleans Saints-Aidan Hutchinson-Edge
A 4-3 DE with good tape and average athleticism, could provide good depth at the 5 technique behind Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport.
64.) Pittsburgh Steelers-Daniel Faalele-OL
An absolutely MASSIVE OL measuring in at 6’8” and 400 pounds, Faalele can move that weight well enough to play tackle but likely projects better to guard. If he can prove that he can play the edge with good technique then he could be an athletic freak and a steal but if he has to kick inside he should be able to manhandle DTs.
